If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin's masterwork—the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time—warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived withThe World of Ice & Fire.
This lavishly illustrated volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO'sGame of Thrones. In a collaboration that's been years in the making, Martin has teamed with Elio M. García, Jr., and Linda Antonsson, the founders of the renowned fan site Westeros.org—perhaps the only people who know this world almost as well as its visionary creator.
The definitive companion piece to George R. R. Martin's dazzlingly conceived universe,The World of Ice & Fire is indeed proof that the pen is mightier than a storm of swords.

I will check that out! Thanks, and I agree that many of the changes created a sort of inevitable butterfly effect. It sort of painted the showrunners into a corner, so to speak. But that still doesn’t excuse the lazy writing.
Give the books another chance. Hopefully he will finish them. I also love The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones https://www.amazon.com/dp/0553805444/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9uC4Cb8S80E6V it’s a great read and overall beautiful book. I’m holding onto the beauty and mystery of the world GRRM created, not what D&D mishandled. :)
Well there is this it won't answer all your questions but it does a huge deep dive into the history and lore.
Sweet, totally worth it! I would also suggest The World of Ice and Fire, but only when you are done reading the books. The artwork alone almost makes it worth it.

The World of Ice and Fire
I know a bit about Game of Thrones.
You could get them a gift based on the house they like the most. If they didn't put which house they liked, then you could send them an anonymous message like "What house would you be a part of? Who is your favorite character? Which is your favorite book and why?" Some people have pretty strong feelings about characters, so it'd be good to ask.
Here we go:
If it works out with shipping and the age of your giftee, you can send Game of Thrones beer . I know that some people watch with friends, so sets of glasses to enjoy as a group would probably be appreciated.
People often gift Pop! figurines of their giftee's favorite character.
There are few books you could get your giftee (but if they're a huge fan, they might already have them):
*A Feast of Ice and Fire Cookbook
*The Unofficial Game of Thrones Cookbook
*The World of Ice and Fire
*The Lands of Ice and Fire
*If you're looking to splurge, Risk: Game of Thrones Board Game just came out. It's a seriously great game that's on my own wish list.
*Telltale Games for Game of thrones. Really great game that's actively updating. Make sure they don't have it already as it's really popular (you might want to ask what games they already have to avoid spoiling them).
If they haven't read the Hedge Knight (which is a prequel to Game of Thrones) they might enjoy the graphic novels which people seem to really like. If they don't seem to like comics, and seem to be more a straight book fan, then they might like the newly compiled edition of the tale A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms . There's a good chance that they don't have A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms because it just came out last month.
If they like other fandoms, and also like cooking, you might have success with The Geeky Chef Cookbook .
And finally, if they've only seen the TV show, just buy them the book set .
